Lagos shuts Daleko rice market for violating environmental law

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration has shut down the Daleko rice market in the Mushin Local Governmrnt Area of Lagos for disobeying environmental laws.

Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Managing Director Ibrahim Odumboni confirming the closure of the popular market disclosed to the newsmen that the market had been served several abatement notices over bad and improper waste management.

The LAWMA Enforcement and Monitoring Team, EMT, closed the market.

According to Odumboni, the present administration of Lagos under Snawo-Olu would not condone any environmental degradation, and any offender caught would be dealt with.

“The market was sealed over Illegal and indiscriminate dumping of waste. And it will not be reopened until they conform with the state environmental laws.

“Over time, Lagosians have been urged not to dump waste indiscriminately, which often ends in drainages, thereby blocking the free flow of wastewater.

“They are also encouraged on the need to patronize Public Sector Participants, PSPs, and desist from patronizing Cary pushers,” Odumboni stated.
