Amid rising insecurity, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, says the military remains committed to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion.
He said, “The military is nonpartisan and apolitical and will do everything possible to protect the country’s territorial integrity from external aggression.”
Speaking when he paid a familiarization visit to the leadership of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs at the National Mosque in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja Friday, General Musa said that the essence of the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the Nigerian armed forces and religious leaders across the country.
He said, “The military is nonpartisan and apolitical and will do everything possible to protect the country’s territorial integrity from external aggression.
“The Military remains committed to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion.”
The Chief of Defence Staff urged religious leaders in the country to use their positions given to them to foster the peace and unity needed for the socio-economic development of the country.
According to Gen. Musa, only with peace and unity can development be achieved in all spheres of life in the country.
The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari, the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque and other Imams in attendance thanked the military chief for the visit.
He assured that all the Imams in the Central mosque and other mosques in the FCT are promoters of peace in their sermons and would do everything to ensure peace and unity among all Nigerians.
The members of the Council assured the CDS that they would continue to pray for peace in their sermons in the country.
