The convoy of the Lagos State
governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, recently made a timely intervention and
saved several motorists from armed robbers who were poised to unleash
mayhem at the popular Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 8 pm Thursday, when
daredevil robbers, dressed in police uniform and armed to the teeth,
mounted a roadblock on the busy route under the ruse of a stop and
search.
Vanguard
reports that the bandits had caused a holdup of sorts and were about to
commence operation when their devious scheme came unstuck.
It turned out the convoy of Governor Ambode was close to the scene at
that moment, and the security men engaged the robbers in a fire fight
which eventually saved the day.
A source at the governor’s office confirmed the incident, stating
that the convoy was returning from Osun State where Ambode had attended
the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari.
