Gunmen kill 3 policemen in Anambra community

Three police officers were killed by gunmen on Friday in the state’s Ihiala Local Government Area, according to the Police Command in Anambra.

The confirmation was contained in a statement released on Saturday in Awka by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson.

According to Ikenga, police officers from the Ihaila Area Command responded to a distress call along Isheke Road in Ihaila on Friday at around 2.40 p.m. and found three bodies of fatally wounded policemen.

He claimed that the armed men attacked the officers and set their vehicle on fire.

The spokesman said the deceased policemen were attached to the Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD), Delta Police Command.

According to him, the trio were on assignment en route to Abia when they were attacked in Ihiala area.

He said efforts are currently on to track the gunmen. (NAN)
