Following the blockage of food supplies from the north, the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission met with the Commissioners of Agriculture in the South-West states over the looming food crisis in the region.
Mr. Seye Oyeleye, Director-General of the DAWN Commission, had the emergency meeting with the aim of proferring solutions to the food crisis -especially food products coming from the northern part of Nigeria, which has been halted due to the farmers-herders crisis.
“The Director-General of DAWN Commission, Mr. Seye Oyeleye, attended a virtual emergency meeting of Southwest Agric Commissioners and Southwest Agricultural Company (SWAGCO) convened by the Commission to address food security for Southwest Nigeria,” the commission tweeted on Tuesday.
DAWN was set up by the governments of the South-West states as the institutional and program management body to midwife their regional integration agenda.
The commission, DAWN, was established by the South-West states as an institutional program to help her manage integration agency in the region.
It was, however, gathered that some Hausa youths had blocked the popular Kara-Jebba, near Jebba in Kwara State, thereby preventing food many truck drivers from carrying food items such as tomatoes, beans, yams, cattle, pepper, and other food items from Kara into Kwara and other states of the Federation.
However, the Defence Headquarters, in a signed statement made available by its Acting Director Information, Brigadier-General Nwachukwu, confirmed that they had cleared the Jebba-Kaduna Road and free flow movement has been restored.
“This is also to give a stern warning to any unscrupulous group or persons who are aiming at disrupting legitimate economic and commercial activities by preventing the free flow of traffic and movement of goods in a bid to generate clashes along ethnic divides to desist from such unpatriotic acts or face the wrath of the law.
“Members of the public are also urged to promptly report anyone found engaged in such atrocious activities to security operatives,” the statement had said.
