The Federal Fire Service (FFS) said property worth N23billion was destroyed by fire in the last quarter of 2022 and 28 lives lost in 649 incidences.
This was revealed by the service in statistical data made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
It also revealed that 29 lives were saved, 40 people were rescued, and N145.4 billion in estimated property was salvaged throughout the review period.
The statistics also showed that the causes of the fire incidents were due to various reasons, ranging from electrical equipment and high voltage from PHCN.
Others are illegal storage of petroleum products, bush fire, electrical spark, among others.
It said the affected areas include private dwellings, educational establishment, shops and clubs.
Others are hotels, restaurants, factories, banks, petrol stations, transformer, oil/gas, timber sheds, automobiles, markets, plane crash, among others. (NAN)
