Femi Fani-Kayode and Senator Ben Bruce have both reacted to the visa free policy granted to all citizens of African Union member nations by President Buhari.
The new policy which will see other Africans receive their visa on arriving Nigeria was disclosed on Wednesday by Buhari while speaking in Egypt at the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa.
“We in Nigeria have already taken the strategic decision to bring down barriers that have hindered the free movement of our people within the continent by introducing the issuance of visa at the point of entry into Nigeria to all persons holding passports of African countries with effect from January, 2020”, Buhari said.
Reacting to the policy, Ben Bruce commended the president as he urged him to extend it to all people of Black African origin.
“I commend President @MBuhari for his visa free policy to all citizens of African Union member nations. I first suggested this in my Right of Return Bill. I urge the President to go the whole hog and extend this to all people of Black African origin in the Diaspora”, he tweeted.
However, Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, criticized the policy which he says will grant the Fulani what they’ve always wanted.
“No more visas for Africans coming to Nigeria? The Fulanis of West Africa, rejected &unwanted elsewhere, have finally been given what they wanted all along: a homeland of their own. They will flood Nigeria in their millions and within 5 years our demographics will change forever”, he tweeted.
