70-year-old Ex-Oyo Governor Ajimobi has now been confirmed dead.
Governor Ajimobi who had been on a life support machine since last Friday at First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, after slipping into a coma following Coronavirus complications, finally died hours ago.
A source confirmed that his family will make a formal announcement this evening. “His organs collapsed about a week ago. It is just that the family didn’t want to unplug the life support. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
The former governor was rumoured to be dead last week but his aides and family members denounced the report asking Nigerians to rather pray for his recovery.
Kemi Filani News recounts that the ex-Governor Ajimobi had been on life support machine after he slipped into a deep coma since Friday as a result of COVID-19 complications.
The news sparked rumours of his death, sending panic across the landscape especially among his supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he is the National Deputy Chairman (South) of the party.
A source who spoke to Sahara Reporters disclosed that the former Oyo governor had a lung surgery since being rushed to the Lagos hospital but made no progress while his kidneys had also failed.
Doctors treating Ajimobi, it was reliably gathered, last Friday informed his family that his situation had defied every medical intervention and that only a miracle could bring him back to life.
The ex-governor however succumbed to the deadly coronavirus that has also killed several prominent Nigerians including late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, who was also treated for the disease at First Cardiology Hospital until he died.
May his soul rest.
His wife, Florence who is reportedly ill after diagnosed for possible Coronavirus infection, two weeks ago is yet to be confirmed negative for a second test.
