D’Tigress becomes the first African team to qualify for the quarter-final of the FIBA Women’s World Cup following their hard-fought 57-56 win against Greece, and the First African team to win 3 straight games in the FIBA Women’s World Cup.
They sealed their place with a narrow 57-56 win over Greece on Wednesday, at the Santa Cruz court in Tenerife.
It was their third consecutive victory, following back-to-back wins against Turkey and Argentina.
The first quarter ended 15 points apiece.
The D’Tigress, however, opened a five-point lead in the second quarter, winning 16-11.
They further increased their lead with a 17-11 win in the third quarter.
However, it did not look too good for the D’Tigress in the final quarter, as they eventually lost 9-19.
The Nigeria Women’s basketball team are billed to face the United States of America in the quarter-final.
Nigeria will play USA in the quarter-final on Friday.
The US are the leading basketball nation in the world. When they met at the World Women Championship in September 2006, US won 79-46.
