The Nigeria Customs Service has said its operatives have intercepted a Pistol with 2 magazines containing 26 rounds of ammunition in a baggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
In a statement on its website, Customs stated that this happened while its operatives were on routine examination at the ‘D’ wing of the arrival hall of the airport at about 1105 hours on 13th April 2022.
The baggage is said to belong to one Mr Afolabi Olumide.
DSC Victor Ogagbor, the Public Relations Officer for Customs Murtala Mohammed International airport Lagos, revealed that Olumide with Passport number B50120017 arrived from Washington DC via United Airlines.
“According to the PRO, the suspected passenger had earlier been accused by the Nigeria Immigration Service of illegally having 2 International Passports.
“The importation of the firearm contravenes Schedule 4 of the Customs and Excise and Management Act which is an Absolute Prohibition. NCS MMIA Command has since handed over the suspect and the Arms to the Department of States Services.” Customs said in a statement.
