Oloketuyi, a blogger who was sued to court by the Chief Executive
Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo has been granted bail.
Oloketuyi,
who is the organizer of the annual Best of Nollywood awards, is facing
charges of defamation for a story he allegedly published about Nnamdi
Okonkwo.
Having been remanded in prison since August 25, his
lawyer, Dr Muiz Banire filed a bail application yesterday and argued
that since the charge brought against him was a bailable offence, the
accused had a right to be granted bail.
The Police prosecutor
opposed the bail move, claiming that Oloketuyi was under investigation
by the DSS for other crimes such as blackmail and consequently that he
should not be granted bail.
However, the judge presiding over the
case, Justice Mohammed Yunusa, ruled in favor of the accused, granting
him bail to the tune of N3 million while requiring two sureties in like
sum.
