Council boss impeached in Benue

The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. Caleb Migirimga Aba has been impeached by the council legislative house, KemiFilaniNews reports.

The councillors representing the 10 council wards of the local government passed a vote of no confidence on Mr Aba during a plenary section on Tuesday, over allegations bothering on document forgery and embezzlement of council’s funds.

The lawmakers accused the chairman of forging legislative documents and illegally selling the local government’s shares at the Benue Cement Company without the approval of the legislative arm, and embezzling the proceeds from the sale of the shares.

The lawmakers, therefore, suspended the chairman for a period of three months.

The councillors said the suspension would afford them the opportunity to investigate the matter properly.

Hon. John Mark was named interim chairman of the local government.
