Workers have matched words with action as Nigeria Labour Unions have commenced nationwide protests.
NLC president Joe Ajaero disclosed this on Wednesday in an Interview with Channels Television at Unity Fountain, where workers gathered to hit the street.
He said there are some hindrances in the commencement of the protest in some states.
According to him, the efforts of the Nigeria Police to frustrate the protests is unfortunate.
“Protests have taken off in all states bearing some hindrances in some places. We are aware of the Police efforts to stop the process in some areas.
“To be candid with you, nothing is stopping the protest. Based on responses from state governments, it is equally our determination whether the protest will be for today, tomorrow or next, not by using force to stop the people from expressing their views. We are here for the protest, to make a statement to Nigerians”, he stated.
Recall that workers announced a nationwide protest on August 2 to demand a reversal of fuel price increments and other policies by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
Consultations between the workers and federal government have not yielded results.
However, on Monday in his Nationwide Broadcast President Tinubu announced economic palliatives for Nigerians to cushion the impact of harsh economic realities.
As of the time of filing this report, workers gathered for protests in Unity Fountain Abuja, Ogun, Kano, Kaduna,Imo, and Kogi states.
