For the first time in the 88-year history of the World Cup competition, one football club will is finally having at least one player in each of the groups. This honour goes to Spanish champions FC Barcelona as they become the first club to do so in the history of the sport.
Here is the break-up of the eight groups and the Barcelona players in each:
Group A: Luis Suarez (Uruguay)
Group B: Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué, and Jordi Alba (Spain)
Group C: Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembélé (France)
Group D: Lionel Messi (Argentina), Ivan Rakitić (Croatia)
Group E: Phillipe Coutinho and Paulinho (Brazil)
Group F: Marc-André ter Stegen (Germany)
Group G: Thomas Vermaelen (Belgium)
Group H: Yerry Mina (Colombia)
However, it can be said that under normal circumstances, all 14 players should feature at the World Cup and this unique feat is one that is likely to stand the test of time, given the impending expansion of the tournament.
