The 4-month old strike action by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may come to an end soon as the federal government has just released N16.8 billion to settle outstanding salary arrears of tertiary institution staff.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja stating that the government had addressed all issues and awaits the academic unions (ASUU and ASUP) to take action by calling off the strike in the coming days.
According to him, both parties have reached an agreement reached that should translate into the resumption of academic activities in universities’ campuses across the country without further delay.
Adamu also added that the disbursement of the N16.8 billion is ongoing through the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
