Anxiety in Abuja as mob attempts lynching DSS operatives, others

Confusion broke out in Garki International Market in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, on Thursday as some youths attempted to lynch some yet-to-be-identified operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS and others.
Kemi Filani News gathered that the problem began when the DSS operatives allegedly fired a shot in an attempt to effect an arrest in the market.
There was an altercation between occupants of the market and other individuals who allegedly brought the DSS operatives to settle an undisclosed dispute.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said operatives of the command attached to the Garki Divisional Police station were swiftly deployed to the area.
According to the PPRO, the “police intervened to rescue the individuals and protect public safety”.
It was learnt that during the incident, a section of the Police outpost was damaged as some of the angry youths acted disorderly.
The FCT spokesperson noted that some weapons used in the “commotion were recovered, and normalcy has now been restored”.
Similarly, a statement issued on Thursday night by the spokesman of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, said the Service has launched an investigation into the incident.
