Again, fire razes another Borno market

Several dozens of shops at Maiduguri’s popular Gamborun Market have been destroyed by fire yet again.

The Saturday fire outbreak, which started at 2 p.m., was still raging when men from the fire service arrived to put it out, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Mr. Abdu Umar, the Borno Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident to NAN in Maiduguri and said that men from the command and other security personnel were battling to put out the fire.

Umar said that about five fire fighting trucks were deployed to the scene to contain the situation.

NAN reports that hundreds of affected traders were seen struggling to collect remains of their property in the rubble, while some watched helplessly as the fire continued to ravaged more structures.

Official statement is expected from the state government. (NAN)
