The deputy national chairman (north) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Kyari, is currently presiding over a meeting of the party’s national working committee (NWC).
This comes hours after the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, resigned from office.
Emma Enukwu, deputy national chairman (south); Isaac Kekemeke, vice-chairman south-west; Salihu Lukman, vice-chairman north-west; and Festus Fuanter, deputy national legal secretary; are among those attending the meeting at the party’s headquarters on Monday.
There is heavy presence of security personnel around the headquarters of the party located in the Wuse 2 district of the federal capital territory (FCT).
Adamu was advised by Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo state and chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), to resign after a protracted cold war with President Bola Tinubu.
In the build-up to the national elective convention that saw Adamu become APC chairman, Tinubu had supported Tanko Al-Makura, a former senator and ally, for the position.
But having enjoyed the support of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Adamu was elected chairman.
