Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede has reacted to the news of a snake alleged to have swallowed N36m from the vault of the account office of the board in Makurdi, Benue State. He slammed Nigerians for turning the issue into a joke when they ought to be calling for the punishment of parties involved. His quote below.
“That is Nigerians for you, making the serious issue. I didn’t find it funny since the story broke out because I think as a nation with a future, rather than celebrating those achieving success, we are busy celebrating people who should be caned.
“You turned serious issue into to a national or an international joke. There are many snakes in other establishment but because those overseeing them are also snakes, that is why they could not be able to identify those snakes.
“Rather than creating an impression that JAMB is extraordinarily bad, they should give us a lesson to check where we went wrong.”
The housemaid who is accused of turning to the snake which is said to have swallowed N36m from the vault in the account office revealed what happened.
According to 16 year old Dor, she said,
“It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office. But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing. I became worried and surprised how the millions of Naira could be disappearing from the vault’.
“I began to interrogate everybody in the house and office, and no one could agree on what might have happened to the money. I continued to press until my housemaid confessed. She said that the money disappeared “spiritually”. She said that a “mysterious snake” sneaked into the house and swallowed the money in the vault.”
