Shakiru Yinusa, 26, was arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Monday for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing N1.7 million in household items.
Yinusa, whose residence was not disclosed, was charged with burglary, theft, and conspiracy.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, the defendant and one other person who is still at large committed the crimes on November 8, 2022 at Agoro road, Ijoko, Ota.
Adaraloye said that the defendant and his accomplice conspired to break into the house of the complainant, Risikat Laisu, and stole a LG plasma television, deep freezer and other valuables, worth N1.7 million.
He said that the defendant was caught by a vigilance group and handed over to the police.
Adaraloye said that the offences contravened Sections 335, 410 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. I, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.
She adjourned the case till Feb. 27 for further hearing. (NAN)
