The Arewa Youth Trust Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has urged Nigerians to vote for credible leaders in the upcoming general elections.

The call was made by the foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Fahad Ahmed-Chikaji, in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna.

‘‘I want to use this medium to call on Nigerians especially eligible voters to use their votes wisely by voting credible candidates of their choice.

‘‘They must ensure that they elect only candidates without questionable character, those with proven integrity, excellent records and those who can effectively deliver the good governance Nigerians deserve,” he said.

He also cautioned Nigerians against vote buying, describing it as an ugly trend that could put the nation’s democracy in danger.

He said the forthcoming elections should be different from the previous ones, urging the electorate to keep sentiments aside and vote competency at both federal and state level.

General elections will be held in Nigeria on Feb. 24 to elect the President and Vice President and members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

The governorship and state assembly elections will be held for state governors in 31 out of 36 on March 11.

Ahmed-Chikaji also urged Nigerians to eschew violence during and after the elections, saying “it is only when there is peace that development can take place”. (NAN)
