Barely four days after stepping down for former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention on Saturday in Abuja, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal is reportedly set to run for the Sokoto South senatorial seat.
KEMI FILANI NEWS recalls that Tambuwal stepped down his presidential ambition for Atiku, who defeated his main contender, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and others to emerge as PDP candidate for the 2023 election.
Tambuwal’s immediate past Commissioner for Land and Housing, Aminu Bala Bodinga, won the PDP senatorial seat unopposed after the incumbent, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), due to protracted internal crisis.
According to Daily Trust, a source privy to the development said Danbaba dumped PDP after it became clear that it was Tambuwal who asked Bodinga to contest for the ticket.
The aforementioned publication reported that Bodinga was holding the ticket and may be asked to withdraw from the race to pave way for Tambuwal to get the ticket in a fresh senatorial primary.
It would be recalled that Tambuwal did same in 2018, when he lost the PDP presidential primary in Port Harcourt, but later took over the governorship ticket from his Deputy, Manir Dan’iya, who won the primary.
