The Rotary Club of Oxbow Lake, Yenagoa, led by President Hilda Afakwu-Adimoha, donated a wheelchair and a “WASH-IN-SCHOOLS” system to Community Primary School Mile 2, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa, on Wednesday.
Mr Mightyman Alabo-Itih, RID9141’s 6th District Governor, stated during the handover that the WASH-IN-SCHOOLS project included the construction of a borehole and the rehabilitation of a four-compartment toilet facility.
According to him, the club also demonstrated a power generation set in collaboration with Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), Proctor and Gamble, and H20 for Life.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the project fulfilled two of Rotary International’s focus areas: water, sanitation, and hygiene, and earth preservation.
The district governor charged the school to make good use of the projects and protect them from being destroyed.
He added that “with the commissioning of the project, pupils of Community Primary School Mile 2 Sagbama will be able to maintain proper personal hygiene, which will in turn preserve the environment.”
The Paramount Ruler of Sagbama, King Ojo Magbisa and the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman,
Mr Wilson Ezuwe, commended Rotary International for contributing to humanity.
They urged other humanitarian organisations to emulate rotary club, which they said had been putting smiles on people’s faces across the world. (NAN)
