Lekki shooting will be swept under carpet if Tinubu becomes president – HURIWA
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has said the Lekki shooting of October 20, 2020, will be hidden forever if Asiwaju Bola Tinubu becomes president.
Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress and former governor of Lagos State where the shooting took place.
The shooting was carried out by security forces to disperse youths protesting against police brutality and bad governance.
Today makes it two years since the shooting, and youths have promised to carry out a memorial procession at the Lekki toll gate where it happened.
According to HURWA, “The youths are heroes. Nobody should have any regrets. They should not give up on the struggle for good governance. And as we move closer to elections, they should make sure that Tinubu does not smell the power.
“If somebody like Tinubu becomes Nigerian president, Lekki killings will be hidden forever”.
In memory of the event, Nigerians have taken to social media to express how they feel.
@denyce81 said on Twitter, “They told white lies to cover up a massacre that was streamed LIVE. We said “We will never forget.” They thought we were joking. The victims of that massacre are the real heroes of today’s looming revolution. May their souls continually rest in peace.”
@KingTundednut said, “Today makes it 2 years. We will never forget, may the souls of the departed keep on resting in peace. #EndSARS #EndSARSMemorial2 #Lekkitollgate #LekkiMassacre #EndsarsMemorialAtHavilah.”
@TheSerahIbrahim said, ” 20TH OF OCTOBER 2020. I survived #LekkiMassacre because a guy stood in front of me to shield me. He died and I am on a mission to get them all Justice. That is why I put my life aside to be at the panel for a whole year. That is why I would not stop fighting until they get justice.”
