Members of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday, chanted the name of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, before the aggrieved governors of the party, popularly known as G5 governors.
The governors are Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
The governors met in Lagos where they were hosted by a former deputy national chairman of the party, Olabode George, at Southern Sun Hotel in Ikoyi.
They are demanding the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, but stated that window f reconciliation in the party remains open.
After their closed-door meeting at the hotel, the governors converged at George’s residence to address PDP supporters who waited hours for them.
Wike, who spoke on behalf of the governors, apologised to them for keeping them waiting and promised to support the party in the state.
He, however, stated that his support will be for the party’s candidates for House of Assembly, House of Reps, and Senate.
This meant he had no regard for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku, and the Lagos State govenrorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor.
AFter speaking for about three minutes, Wike and his colleagues left the premises to the anger of the crowd that waited for them for hours.
Our correspondent who graced the event saw what looked like a violent display as an angry mob stood in front of the van conveying the five governors.
The angry mob chanted Atiku to show that they were not in support of the governors’ stance against his presidential ambition.
The other PDP members could be heard expressing displeasure at what they call wasted time, adding that George was destroying the PDP in the state.
