Traffic is imminent on the Benin-Ore expressway on Friday as members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, take their #EndASUUStrikeNow protest to Edo State.
In a statement, NANS made it clear that the protest is against the continued closure of universities due to the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
According to the Association, students have had enough of staying at home and will not allow rulers to kill their future.
The statement read, “In sustaining the #EndASUUStrikeNow struggle which commenced today, we call on all Nigerian students and parents and workers to join us in Benin-Ore Expressway tomorrow as we continue the agitation.
“Recall that the ASUU strike has been on for exactly 7 months with the Federal Government showing crass irresponsibility. For the past 7 months, a total of 15 negotiations have been done with no tangible result. The Federal Government has displayed their unreadiness towards committing to the well-being of lecturers and the funding of the educational sector.
“Nigerian students have had enough of staying at home. We will not allow our rulers to use their irresponsibility to kill the future of Nigerian students.
“Convergence point: Benin-Ore Expressway, Ondo state.”
