Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, on Sunday, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC, after allegedly falling out with his principal, Governor Seyi Makinde.
Olaniyan announced his defection on Sunday in his private office, Ojoo, Ibadan, while addressing journalists.
It would be recalled that Olaniyan had in 2020 complained to the Dr. Saka Balogun-led committee to reconcile aggrieved PDP members, that Makinde had sidelined him for a long time.
The deputy governor’s defection is coming after weeks of speculations that he was going to leave the party because of the frosty relationship between him and Makinde.
Though no official statement had been made but reports on Thursday stated that Makinde had dropped Olaniyan as his running mate for the 2023 governorship poll.
