Amosun vows to work against Ogun APC in 2023

The Senator representing Ogun Central in the National Assembly, Ibikunle Amosun, has vowed to work against the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ogun State in the 2023 general elections.

Amosun said his support is for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Biyi Otegbeye and not the APC candidate and incumbent, Governor Dapo Abiodun in next year’s election.

He stated this during an exclusive interview with BBC Yoruba in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

However, the former Governor of Ogun State said he strongly backs the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the forthcoming 2023 election.

Recall that Amokun backed Adekunle Akinlade, who contested against Abiodun in 2019, on the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) platform.

Amosun’s candidate lost the 2019 election to Abiodun, who polled 241,670 votes to defeat Akinlade, who had 222,153 votes.

Speaking with BBC Yoruba, he said, “For the presidential poll, I can assure you, both right, left and centre, we are supporting one person (Tinubu). I believe we are supporting one person. On the governorship poll, that’s a different ball game. I don’t belong there.

“I don’t hide behind one finger to fight. That’s why people say to me ‘don’t say that.’ On governorship, my supporters and I, we don’t belong to that side.”

Responding to the question of who is supporting, Amosun said, “Biyi Otegbeye is the person I am supporting and ADC is the party.”
