The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed why the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, picked a Muslim, Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
KEMI FILANI NEWS recalls that Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at his Daura home in Katsina State on Sunday.
Ganduje said the APC standard bearer chose a Muslim running mate to mitigate special consideration given to religions in Nigerian politics.
He disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists at Unguwar Sabo Juma’at Mosque, Osogbo, Osun State, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Ganduje is in Osun as Deputy Chairman of the committee for the state governorship election.
The governor further stated that Nigeria’s biggest problems are economy, employment and other developmental issues but not religion.
He said, “We advised him (Tinubu) to pick Muslim as his running mate to end the religious consideration shown in Nigeria’s politics.
“We, northern governors stand firmly that a presidential candidate must come from South so as to do away with all these differences.”
