Despite police warnings, thousands of Nigerians who support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, held a rally at the Lekki toll gate on Saturday.
They chanted songs of support and held placards as they marched on the Lekki-Epe expressway.
A Twitter user with the handle @Nkemchor shared images from the event, saying that police could not stop them.
“The police presence at Lekki did not stop youths from gathering. Very proud of this generation. If Lekki is your route join them!”
Another supporter @eklepatience also tweeted, “All we want is a genuine leader that’s ready to serve Nigerians we’re not asking for too much nah just give us Peter Obi. Festac Lagos is Obidient.”
Daily post reported that the Lagos State Police Command on Friday issued directive against organising any form of rally at the Lekki Toll gate, referencing the subsisting court order that prohibited it.
There are indications that the rally holding simultaneously in other parts of Lagos, like Festac town, Surulere and the National Stadium.
