Watch Beyoncé Perform “Be Alive” from King Richard at the Oscars.
The Oscars on Sunday night was popular for the drama between Will Smith and Chris Rock and even if things had gone more smoothly, anything scheduled after Beyoncé’s opening performance of “Be Alive” from Best Picture nominee King Richard was bound to be a letdown.
Following an introduction by Venus and Serena Williams, the event aired a pre-recorded rendition of the Oscar-nominated song from Compton’s Tragniew Park Tennis Courts. Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton of King Richard, the Compton Cowboys Junior Equestrians, Jay Z and Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, all made cameos throughout the performance.
The beautiful performance of “Be Alive,” which the singer co-wrote with songwriter/producer Dixson, marked the artist’s first award ceremony performance in five years. Her comeback to the Academy Awards was also her first since 2009, when she performed a movie musical medley with host Hugh Jackman.
