Nigerian gospel singers who died this year: Both heartbreakingly tragic news and extremely fantastic news have been reported this year. There are few things sadder than hearing about a death, and today Nigerians were given some heartbreaking news from the gospel music industry.
Kemi Filani News will pay tribute to the three deceased gospel singers we lost this year today. Here they are without further ado.
Sammie Okposo
Sammie Okposo, a gospel singer from Nigeria, is the one who gave us such gospel anthems as “Welu Welu,” “Naija Praise,” “Na Only You I Know,” “Jehovah Idi Ebube,” and many others. Many of his songs continue to this day to be a staple of praise and worship services in most churches across the nation.
Sammie Okposo, a legendary singer, was said to have died on November 25th, 2022, just days after being admitted to a hospital for treatment of an undisclosed illness. The singer passed away at the age of 51, leaving behind his wife, Ozioma Okposo, and his kids.
Chinedu Nwadike
Chinedu Nwadike, a gifted artist who wrote songs like “Chi Anyi Di” and “Jesus Kwue Okwu,” tragically passed away on June 3, 2022, at the age of 39.
He died after a long battle with chronic kidney disease and is survived by his wife and three children.
Osinachi Nwachukwu
One of the most talked-about deaths in the nation this year was that of Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, best known for her work on the hit songs “Ekwueme,” “The Cry,” “God of Power (Ikem),” and others.
On April 8, 2022, the singer passed away at the age of 42. It was stated at the time of her death that she passed away after battling an unspecified illness. Her spouse soon after claimed she passed away from lung cancer. Then Favour Made, Osinachi’s older sister, emerged and spoke:
She did not die of cancer. The husband, Mr Peter Nwachukwu hit her with his leg on the chest. All these while, he had been beating her but my sister hid all that she was passing through from us. Before now, we told her to come out of the marriage, we told her that they are not divorcing, that it’s just separation. But she felt that God is against divorce. We told her that separation is not a sin but just for her to stay alive and take care of her children. She will always tell us to relax that the man will change.
So, when the man kicked her on the chest, she fell down and he took her to the hospital but he did not even tell us. It was her friend who lives in Ebonyi state that called her twin sister, because Osinachi has a twin sister, to ask, ‘did your sister tell you that Peter hit her on the chest? the sister then told her no. It was the hitting on the chest that killed her.
Her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, denies the accusation saying:
Let me tell the whole world, I have suffered a lot. I have been abandoned. What killed my wife was cancer of the lungs; I didn’t hit my wife. Cancer of the lungs killed my wife, Osinachi Nwachukwu, so I’m suffering for what I do not know
Osinachi Nwachukwu is survived by 4 children.
May the soul of all the departed rest in perfect peace.
