The ninth episode of The Real Housewives of Lagos unfolded as a regal yet tumultuous affair. The wives were given the extraordinary opportunity to visit the Ile-Ife royal palace, illustrating how connections with affluence can open doors to grand places.
However, even in the esteemed setting of royalty, the women couldn’t resist unleashing their dramatic sides, culminating in a heated brawl.
Amidst the messy drama, the episode managed to capture the essence of African royalty and culture at its zenith. The portrayal of the Ile-Ife royal palace showcased the opulence and grandeur associated with royalty. Traditional dances, culinary delights, and various activities provided a rich display of African tradition and culture.
The Olori’s teachings, both traditional and royal, offered enlightening insights into the past, while spiritual activities embarked on by the King of Ife and the intricate process of creating tie and dye materials from the Olori’s Adire industry delved deeper into the traditions of the Ile-Ife Kingdom.
The Housewives adorned themselves in beautiful outfits, recognizing the significance of being in the presence of royalty, and behaving with grace and elegance. The queen, in particular, embodied regality as she hosted the wives in the royal palace.
Meanwhile, Iyabo Ojo assumes a leadership role on the show, behaving as if she were crowned the head of the Housewives, indicating that Faith Morey is perceived as not truly part of the group. Despite Faith Morey providing evidence to Tania, by presenting her chat history with Dr. Rommel, Tania continues to align herself with Iyabo’s biased opinion of Faith Morey.
Iyabo’s self-acclaimed position as the ‘big aunty housewife’ is reinforced by some of the wives, notably Tania and Chioma Ikokwu, who unquestioningly suck up to her in the name of loyalty. Amidst all the drama in this episode, Laura and Faith Morey seem to have been spared from some huge form of drama, they took well well-needed breather from drama.
Mariam seems to get the taste of her own medicine as she goes around looking for conflict until conflict comes knocking on her door. The fight scene is embarrassing as we see her go as far as breaking Toyin’s phone and her clothes coming off. Class and elegance seem to fly out the window when these wives are in full drama mode.
While the episode began on a note of regal beauty, some of the wives smeared it with conflict. The questions linger: Will the strained relationship between Toyin and Mariam be repaired? Will Mariam finally step back from drama and conflict after this altercation? The answers await in the upcoming episodes.
