Movie review: Why Chief Daddy 2 is an embarrassment to Nollywood

Chief Daddy 2 movie review

When Chief Daddy was released in 2018, it was pleasing to watch, had genuinely funny scenes and even though it wasn’t perfect, it was loved and enjoyed by many. Sadly same can not be said of Chief Daddy 2.

Chief Daddy 2 dropped on Netflix today, January 1, 2022 and whew, it was a complete waste of time and star studded for nothing!!! Forgive me if I sound so angry but it really pissed me off.

The absolute hilarity and energy found in the original was almost completely nonexistent. It felt like it was written by an Asaba Nollywood writer.

Of course, the production was great, beautiful costumes, very good actors; well no surprise there, it’s an EbonyLife film, we expected absolutely no less but it had no story line whatsoever; very disappointing.

Movie review Chief Daddy 2

The sub-storylines were too many, and some seemed unnecessary. In all honesty, having to sit through to the end was torture and boring but someone’s got to for a detailed review of it.

Some of characters lost their original touch, eg the lawyer Remi Castle’s role was reduced to a dumb pity party member of the family instead of taking up her role as a sound Lawyer….We have no idea why Ireti and Dami Baggio seemingly abandoned their good natured purposes……we weren’t told how Tinu and Teni ended up having a joint business with Nike Williams…or clarity on their love triangle with the lawyer…Ini Edo’s role wasn’t felt at all…same for Donatus and Pat….even the introduction of Broda shaggy into the movie literally added no color, just bleh and then the trip to Dubai…gosh!!…

Writers didn’t do justice to ‘Chief Daddy 2, going for broke’s script at all, thus making it an embarrassment to Nollywood and we deserve an apology for being served such on the first day of a new year for that matter.

I totally agree and couldn’t have said it better. Let’s not forget…. what’s the Laila backstory?? She just turns up and is running the family business with no explanation.
I was thoroughly disappointed! The same disappointment I felt with season 2 of castle and castle….where most of the characters all seemed to have had a personality transplant.

This!!!! The story line seemed to be heading on a million directions, more like a parade of celebrities than an actual movie. I felt it had no purpose than to capitalize on the name they created after such success of the original. It was rather a huge let down, especially considering the original was actually good.

It was so well below expectations. I was so looking forward to it but it turned out to be a big disappointment. Full of well known actors but very poor acting. Not good at all👎

You are totally correct on all points. There was no story line and I cringely watched it to the end just to see if there was something good going to come out at the end. Ini Edo said a few words, in fact the only person that said the most was Falz. The whole storyline was abismal and one of the biggest embarrassments of all time. I think they brought out number 2 just for the sake of it. What rubbish it turned out to be. With so many top Nollywood actors it was a total let down. I even think that all of them when they watched it, must have said they didn’t know what the storyline was. There were too many storylines to mention and all of them useless. And then Falz comes out with the one song that he sang three times and that’s when I realised the film is only about his song. What a total total waste of bloody film, money and actors. Please I beg them to stop at number 2 and forget about 3 or any others that they want to bring after it.

I have not watched it and with all the bad comments I have been reading,I definitely might not even KOB that got EXTREMELY GOOD comments I have not watched it till date. Anyways I need to correct something about “Asaba Nollywood writers” give some them credits they are trying compare to all these nonsense they have been dishing us in the name of “good production” “top notch actors” and “very nice custome and makeup”. I watch movies on Iroko app and I can tell you for a fact that some of those movies have very nice storylines than all these yeye ones they take to the cinemas or netflix. My opinion though

I don’t even know where to start. Is it the introduction or non introduction of Laila that makes no sense or the connection to the ending where she suddenly announced a new company and directors at a wedding party? How did that resolve the family feud?

Or the ridiculous story of the two sisters who kept flipping positions with the same lawyer and ended up sharing the man?

Or the family lawyer who was made to look like one of the wives. Same lawyer in Chief Daddy 1 that was so professional and dignified?

How about the footballer and the cheating story or non story? The overreaction of Ada which she even carried to Dubai. Don’t even get me started on his so-called manager and her very racially tinted comments which was not even funny. And how does his injury fit into the story?

Then the Dubai angle makes the story utterly ridiculous. Shaggy stopping in the middle of the street to chase after his GF Brenda. What was the story here? What is the importance of this meeting? It would have made sense if it somehow connected to the love building between Shaggy and Sisi. And how did Shaggy go from being a hustler in Dubai to being Sisi date at a wedding in Lagos?

Then the whole music thing. Famzy’s single was played a whopping 4 times. They even had time to insert a music video. It looked to me like the whole movie was an attempt to help Falz relaunch his floundering music career.

I could go on and on. Bottom line for, it was a waste of time and data. The script was poorly written, the plots and sub-plots were all over the place and made no sense. The acting even with A list actors and celebrities was nothing to write home about. It was a shambolic movie that should never had made it on Netflix. I am inclined to ask Netflix to refund me the money for the data used to watch it.

I agree o, a complete waste of time, it’s like they just wanted us to see Dubai, no plot, directing was shitty, and they just shouldn’t have made the effort to create a part 2

Haven’t sat to fully watch a Nigerian Movie in almost a decade, saw this star-studded movie on netflix and decided to give it a try – absolutely disappointed in Mo Abudu; Couldn’t spend 10mins on the rubbish. Patience Ozokwo, Nkem Owoh, Joke Silva, Kate Henshaw, Falz, Dakore Akande, Funke Akindele, Broad Shaggy etc. just came together to tarnish their classic acting careers. How do you even bring so many A-list actors into same movie? running around doing nothing, making a spectacle and grande charade of themselves. I’m so disappointed.
This is below mediocrity, its a sham with 1/10 rating.
Please how can one delete a movie in Netflix?

I totally agree, I lost interest halfway. I didn’t even see the movie to the end. No stories at all. After watching it yesterday, I told my son the movie was crazy. No comedy, nothing. I was even angry. Total waste of time. Any way I was sewing and watching so e no too pain me but the movie is pure rubbish

A.monumental embarrassment, waste of time and quite shameful. After so much anticipation and noise, and this is me telling everyone that cared to listen how good Chief daddy 1 was so I expected much more.

Quite disappointed that Joke Silva, Dakore Akande, Kate Henshaw would put their names on this sort of clueless, classless script! Not everything is about destinations outside Nigeria complete waste of time not sure which is worse, this or Christmas in Miami……both a big shame to Nollywood…..they’ve both succeeded in ridiculing and taking Nollywood’s rating down by at least 10notches.

An absolute and complete waste of two hours on the first day of the year! No storyline. No particular plot. The “movie” was just all over the place. This sequel is a complete dis-service to the original.

More a costume and star parade than a movie. I even wonder if any of the much respected actors read the whole script or they just delivered their lines? If this was released in the cinema, I see whichever bank financed it ending with a bad loan on its books.

You shudda listened to my daughters asking me to watch since they weren’t home! Damn!!! Such a complete waste of time.
But, we shudda seen it coming as even the original didn’t make use of the MASSIVE array of stars on the movie!
I pray this doesn’t make it to the cinemas for some poor folks to go waste time and money!!!

    I agree with you.
I kept asking my wtf! Till the end of the film.
The only scenes that kept me watching is that of Falz and Beverly Osu.
Chief Daddy is better of without a 2.

What is the essence of a family lawyer if Laila could win?

How can two big sisters obviously fight over a man in a childish way? And what is role of the man in the two sisters’ life? I don’t understand.

Sandra seeing videos of her fiancée kissing another lady and the whole on and off drama around it.

The sound too. I feel there’s something wrong with the voice recording.

    The storyline didn’t follow up.
I doubt if the script was reviewed.

Couldn’t believe that Ini Edo only said a few words, in fact the only person that said the most was Falz. The whole storyline was abismal and one of the biggest embarrassments of all time. And to top it all they put a white woman to slate Nigeria by saying its a “s..t hole” and that its the “most corruptive country in the Universe”……I don’t even know what to say about that, only that it was far from funny and I felt like I wanted to punch the ugly white thing!!

I think they brought out number 2 just for the sake of it. What rubbish it turned out to be.

Y’all really have lots of bad comments about this movie. In my opinion it’s a really good movie. Though there are some truths but it’s not all true. I enjoyed the movie and I was able to see sense in it. This is obviously a comedic display and in most comedic displays I’ve seen You need not understand everything. It’s just for the fun if that moment
