Kenyan actress, Brenda Wairimu shoot her shot on the Nollywood screen with the release of her movie Dice.
The movie was shot in Lagos, Nigeria, Nairobi Kenya, Monbasa Kenya and other Nigeria locations.
DICE tells the story of AJ, a young, nerdy and smart stockbroker who moved to Lagos from London at the age of 10. He has been working at Abubakar Investments for several years and has become very successful at closing sales deals and making ‘little’ commission from them.
AJ is perceived to have a dual personality; one he exhibits at work as a young, naïve and nerdy individual and the other outside work as an extrovert. At work, his colleagues Emeka and Bala often throw shade at him and bully him because they believe he is extremely boring and a ‘mugu’.
They also find him slow because of his inability to stand up for himself and demand his rightful 3% commission.
However, unknown to them AJ has a good life outside of work as he often hangs out at the club with his best friend Segun, both are serial ladies men.
Emeka & Bala are aware that Mr Abubakar constantly cheats him off his commission, but are unaware that he has taken matters into his own hands. His side hustling, however, gets him in trouble when he loses a client’s money and has to borrow money from a gangster, which he fails to pay back on time.
In his quest to revenge on Mr Abubakar for snatching his girlfriend and shorting him of his commissions led to the company being investigated by EFCD as several holes are spotted in the company’s financials.
Luck later smiled at AJ as he later finally finds love in the weirdest place. He met Amaka and wants to dedicate his all to her.
Dice parades some known faces in the Nigerian movie industry, such as Ademola Adedoyin, who played Adebola Johnson (main actor – AJ), Allwell Ademola, who played Bala’s Wife and Woli Arole, who played Vendor. Other Top casts of the movie are; Femi Branch: He played Priest. Daniel Etim Effiong: He played Bala. Dinah Githinji: She played Ruth’s Mum. Efe Irele: She played Amaka. Ani Iyoho: He played Gangster. Ayo Mogaji: She played AJ’s Mother. Ben Moore: he played Doctor. Bolanle Ninalowo: played Emeka. Broda Shaggi: played Efcd Officer. Gbenga Titiloye: played Mr. Abubakar. While, Brenda Wairimu: played Ruth.
The first scene, which shows Broda Shaggi as a Bus conductor, was a sign to expect the worse….(Comic relief gone wrong).
The plot of the story is one of the most confusing ones you must have come across. The more you pay close attention to adding one and two to get to three, the next scene and dialogue mess up your thought process. There are so many twists to the story. They should have stuck with two or three storylines for better understanding.
How did Ruth and AJ manage to team together to take revenge on Mr Abubakar? They were not even in talking terms.
How come Segun, an officer of EFCD is AJ’s best friend? What’s Broda Shaggi’s role? A bus conductor? EFCD Undercover or? What’s up with Venita Akpofure’s role? So much confusion in one movie!
For Dice, the picture quality is good, we were able to see some beautiful parts of Lagos. Costumes were on point, African fabrics (Ankara was highly promoted).
Dice is rated 3/10!
