No fewer than two people have been killed while many others are feared dead after piles of plywood fell off the Ojuelegba Bridge, Lagos State.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 10;43pm on June 19,2018. Sadly, it was gathered that many more people are still trapped under the container with the necessary officials trying to get them out.
The container, upon falling from the bridge, landed on cars who were plying the route beneath the bridge, there by compressing and crushing them right in their own vehicle
It is note worthy to state that over time, the fall over of container on trucks from the same bridge, has become a regular occurrence, leading to unnecessary traffic and series of deaths on the axis as loads of people gather around either to watch, or to help the accident victims
A source at the scene said three commercial buses and a car belonging to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital were trapped under the plywood.
He said,
“There is pandemonium everywhere. The truck was ascending the bridge when the plywood fell. The truck is still on the bridge. Three commercial buses and a car belonging to LUTH have been trapped. I don’t know if there are people in the commercial buses.”
It was learnt that officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were coordinating the rescue operation, which also involved officials of the state fire service.
