Many people, including children, have reportedly died after a truck rammed into a passenger bus along Anyingba-Ajaokuta road in Kogi State on Thursday, January 14.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC) Solomon Aghure, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Lokoja on Friday, said three vehicles, two trucks and a passenger bus, were involved in the accident.
Aghure announced the trucks belonging to Dangote and a bus with the inscription, Bright Mass Transit, was driving on the same lane towards Anyingba when one of the trucks quickly hit the passenger bus from behind and the bus, as a result of the impact, also hit the vehicle in its front.
Aghure said the bus was ensnared in between the two trucks with all the passengers before his men arrived the scene to carry out the rescue operation, which lasted for hours.
He said that 14 out of the 23 persons involved in the accident died on the spot, while nine others nursed various degrees of injury.
Those who died included three female children, two male children, eight women and one man.
