Manager of Osaze Odemwingie’s Edo hotel reportedly murdered

News reports have revealed the alleged murder of one Osato Okunkpolo by armed robbers on Sunday, February 17, 2019.

The deceased who has been identified as the manager of one of Super Eagles footballer, Osaze Odemwingie‘s hotels, located at Erediauwa Street off Upper Sakponba road in Benin-city, was shot dead after robbers gained access to the hotel at about 9 pm on Sunday night.

He reportedly died on the spot.

However, the spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, while confirming the sad incident, revealed that Okunkpolo was hit by a bullet during a shoot-out between two rival cult groups.

He added that members of Eiye and Aye cult groups were engaged in a shoot-out in the area on that same fateful night.

Nwabuzor said, “The incident is true. It is also true that a murder happened at Odemwingie’s hotel on the 17th of February, 2019. The incident was between two secret cults- The Aye and Eiye cult groups.

“It was not an armed robbery incident. The corpse has been deposited at the Bénin Central hospital mortuary.

“Our detectives are still investigating the incident.”
