How a diabetic businessman was duped of N190M by an herbalist

A diabetic businessman was in dire need of finding a cure for the ailment that he gave up N190million to find a cure from a self acclaimed herbalist who duped him.

It was reported that the self-acclaimed herbalist, Adeniyi Adewunmi, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for duping a businessman Mr Lawrence Akanbi. 43-year-old Adewunmi is now facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Friday Mameh, told the court that the accused committed the offences between February 2016 and January this year, at Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Lagos. Mameh said:

“The accused and others still at large approached the complainant, one Mr Lawrence Akanbi, and told him that he is suffering from diabetes, asthma and spiritual attack.

“The complainant believed because he was actually suffering from the ailments stated by the accused.
“The accused used the opportunity to ask the complainant for money till the money amounted to N190m.”

Akanbi saw no improvement in his condition and decided to report the matter to the police. The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted him bail in the sum of N20m, with two sureties in like sum.
