Court remands man, 29, for allegedly defiling teenager in Lagos

David Bamidele, 29, was remanded on Thursday by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Mrs. E. Kubeinje, the magistrate, refused to accept the accused’s plea and ruled that he should be held in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Center.

In order to obtain legal counsel, Kubeinje gave the police instructions to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

She adjourned the case until Feb.26, pending the receipt of the DPP’s advice.

The police arraigned Bamidele, who resides at Jakande, Ejigbo area of Lagos State, on a charge of sexual assault by penetration.

The Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the accused committed the offence in Dec. 2022 at security room, Jakande Estate, Ejigbo,Lagos.

Ajayi said the offence contrabenes the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of sexual intercourse with a child under 18 years. (NAN)
