Athleisure has become synonymous with comfortable fashion, but there are other ways to feel at ease. Last week, as Black celebrities headed to sporting events, business meetings, and parties, they sought for unique outfits that were the perfect blend of casual ease and visual intrigue.
The Appearances
James Harden, a professional basketball player, spotted a modest yet impactful athletic appearance while making his home season debut for the Philadelphia Sixers vs. New York Knicks game. The NBA player was all about getting ready for the game, showing off his pre-game swag in a Celine X Thomas Sauter jacket and track trousers. He didn’t stop there. He completed the appearance with a pair of black sunglasses and Lavin curb sneakers. Given his ability to pull off even the most unconventional things, Harden wore this fall staple in a stylish way. Black men dressed casually
Celebrities and influencers in Nigeria splurged on the exquisite finery of homegrown designers. Reality TV star Prince Nelson Enwerem appeared at the Veuve Clicquot polo competition in Lagos, looking set to paint the economic capital green. Nelson, dressed in a two-piece lime green suit by Jeff Urban Clothing over a leaf print camp collar shirt and a pair of white sneakers, was the best example of how to dress for a cocktail event.
Last week’s events refocused attention on visually appealing clothes. While runway clothes from fashion week dominated the headlines, Black men around the world demonstrated that fashion does not have to break the internet to be considered extraordinary.
