A drink driver was caught on CCTV smashing
into a taxi after jumping a red light in horrifying CCTV footage. Samuel
Olaitan, 32, was found to be nearly double the legal drink driving
limit following the crash on May 20, 2017.
Olaitan
tried to run away from the scene, but a member of the public managed to
detain him and handed him over to police. He was speeding down Trinity
Street, in Bolton town centre, the Manchester Evening News reports. .
In
a CCTV clip released by police, Olaitan can be seen driving along
Trinity Street in a white Citroen C4 Cactus at around 2am. He is seen
approaching the junction of Bradford Street, but instead of paying
attention to the red light, Olatan whizzes through. .
The
vehicle then hits the back of a taxi driving through a green light.
Both cars can then be seen spinning out of control in the middle of the
road, caused by the impact of the collision. .
He
was breath tested and was found to have 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100
millilitres of breath – nearly double the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Fortunately, the taxi driver and passengers did not suffer any serious
injuries. .
Olaitan was arrested and
charged with dangerous driving, drink driving, having no insurance and
driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He was sentenced to
four months in prison, suspended for two years and has been
disqualified from driving for two years. .
He
must also pay £515 in fines, adhere to a curfew and wear an electronic
tag as well as take an extended driving test.
