By now you must have read about the popular dancer, Kemi Omotoyinbo who died during childbirth, two weeks after her wedding.
Read the interview she granted City people, two weeks before she died…she granted the interview on her wedding day:
Olukemi Mary Kayode Omotoyinbo.
Yes O! Today is my marriage, I am getting married to the love of my life, Ikechukwu Eloanyi.
He is from Enugu State.
I am from Ekiti State.
We actually met abroad in 2013 before we came back home to getnmarried. I
am based here in Nigeria while he is based in Italy. It was when I went
for vacation abroad that we met.
(Laughed and very excited). Well, we started as friends while we were
both in Italy. We actually met when I was in Italy. After a while, the
affection started, he asked me out. I saw what I really wanted in a man
in him. But I didn’t stress him much before I accepted him. As I said
earlier, we started as friends, he was there for me, we talked a lot.
IK, as I always call him, was always calling me, keeping in touch, he
really made time for me, and what he told me made a lot of sense to me
everytime. I was never lonely during our friendship, IK was always ever
there for me. He told me many things about him, what so many men will
keep away from you, even though he didn’t know me that much. He had that
love for me, he was always telling me things. So, I was impressed and
moved, because if a man can be that open to me, then what else do I
need. Those were some of the attributes I saw in him.
We didn’t court for long, everything was just God’s way. It was all
sharp, and fast. Remember, I said we met last year, for real, we met
last year.
No, no, no! It wasn’t love at first sight for me, but I wouldn’t know
about him, like I said, we started as platonic friends, I just liked him
as a friend then. It wasn’t love at first sight for me.
Okay! Maybe that was why he could tell me about his personal life, maybe
that was why he really opened up to me, and told me about himself when
we met. He really confided in me.
Not at all. He’s a single guy.
Yes, like I said, I am a professional dancer with many artistes. But
when I met him, Pasuma wasn’t on tour, he had known me before I got to
know him. Probably, he had seen me that day before he started asking me
out.
Laughed. Really? I do dance very well, and this has taken me to many places.
Kemi danced for several popular musicians
including Pasuma, KWAM 1 and Shina Peters.
The pretty lady, who doubled as a choreographer and actress, died in a
private hospital in Lagos on October 1st – exactly 20
days after her wedding to husband Godwin Eloanyi on September the 13th
at the White House Event Hall, Toyin Street, Ikeja.
and when she couldn’t give birth the natural way, doctors said she would
have to do a C&S. The doctors told her the operation would cost
N450k and demanded an initial deposit of N300k before they do it.
The husband couldn’t come up with the money immediately but begged the
hospital to carry on with the operation that he would pay the next day
(October 1st) but the hospital insisted on the deposit and refused to
carry out the operation.
One of her friends wrote;
“The hospital killed her with their negligence and wickedness. Kemi
would have lived if they had done the operation on time but money was
more important than a young woman’s life.
“Kemi’s husband said he would pay the money the next day but the doctor
refused and stated categorically that he would not move an inch else he
pays 300,000. It was at that point Kemi decided to forward messages to
people she knows so she could get help. She got responses that money
would be made available to her the next day. On hearing that the husband
went to beg the doctors again, still they refused.
No bank was opened and nothing could be done until Thursday October 2nd
but unfortunately she gave up the ghost that night. My point is, the
doctors knew she had to go through emergency C&S. they could have
saved her life and get the money later. Nigeria is a very bad country I
must confess.
