Two finalists of Delta State University, whose names are Emmanuel Maduka and Timeyin Okoromadu have been crushed by an unknown truck filled with cement.
According to reports, the truck skid off the road while avoiding a motorcyclist and a moving vehicle in Police station road in Abraka.
This turn of the event led to the death of the duo on Tuesday, May 4.
The first class graduate Emmanuel and his best friend from the Department of Economics were supposed to graduate in a few months.
According to videos shown, Timeyin was lying lifeless on the side of the road. At the same time, his friend’s body was partly captured under the trailer as witnesses made efforts to empty the cement truck to rescue other victims.
The truck driver allegedly escaped from the scene, leaving his partner, who was manhandled by on-lookers.
Spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident to The Nation on Wednesday, May 5,
“I have two casualties for now. I don’t know if they have discovered another one. I know the conductor was rescued from being mobbed and is currently in our custody,” Bright stated.
