Armed gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen militia have reportedly killed at least seven people in Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma Local Government of Benue State, where Governor Samuel Ortom is from.
According to an eyewitness, no fewer than 10 persons also sustained various degrees of injury in the attack.
KemiFilaniNews gathered that the incident happened on Sunday through Monday morning.
An eyewitness, Tyotyev Andoaver Isaiah, said villages around Gbajimba town were also attacked.
“Fulani attack Gbajimba town and nearby villages yesterday and today killed 7 people and injured 10 persons,” Isaiah said.
The eyewitness said the herders fled into the bush after carrying out the carnage.
It was gathered that the security situation has led to pandemonium in the area as the herders are now on a rampage.
“They are now going from Gbajimba town road to Kaseyol market,” the eyewitness said.
KemiFilaniNews recall that suspected herders a week ago attacked the Yerewata community in Benue State, killed one person, and abducted Governor Ortom’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and ICT, James Igbudu’s father-in-law.
Last week Thursday, September 23, 2021, a brother to the Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. Caleb Aba, Mr Fabian Aba was kidnapped by suspected herdsmen while he and some of his family members were at their rice farm at River Mu, close to Tse-Shirsha, Nzorov Ward of the council.
