Members of the Nigeria Police have been said to have beaten and arrested ten #OccupyLekkiTollGate coordinators.
Kunle Ajayi, one of the coordinators, told newsmen that the protesters were detained in a black maria and are about to be taken to some unknown destination.
“Police have just arrested ten protesters – Four ladies and six guys. They were beaten mercilessly and injured,” he said.
One of the protesters in a video, said ”“We have been arrested. Over ten of us. We are kept in a black maria stationed at the toll gate now.”
The Federal Government and the Nigeria Police had previously warned youths planning to stage a protest at the Lekki Toll Gate to shelve it.
But the #Sorsoke generation defy the government order and still went ahead to stage the protest.
However, another group, #DefendLagos, withdrew from its protest plan, citing the government not to hold protest as its reason.
The #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters said their move to continue protest was propelled by the panel of inquiry’s decision for granting the Lekki Concession Company permission to reopen the plaza, saying justice had not been served.
Recall that the #EndSARS protest at the Lekki Toll Gate Plaza on the 20th of October, 2020, allegedly met with repressing force by members of the Nigeria Army who was accused of shooting at unarmed protesters.
The alleged killings of the protesters by armed security men have led the #OccupyLekkiTollGate campaigners to demand justice for their comrade as the plaza is set to be opened.
