Millions of Nigerians are presently stranded while unable to access the call, data and SMS services of Nigeria’s largest telecommunication company, MTN Nigeria.
MTN customers in Lagos, Sokoto, Enugu, Oyo, Ogun, Plateau, Abuja, Lagos have confirmed service outages, noting that the network icon continues to show “No service” for hours now.
Some users who spoke to Kemi Filani News further confirmed this after restarting their phones several times yet still unable to make, receive calls and access the internet.
Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmed, wrote on Facebook, “It is not only your MTN, and it is not only in your area, majority every MTN users are experiencing bad networks this afternoon. So the MTN network problem is everywhere you go.”
MTN Nigeria later posted on its official Facebook page, “Some of our customers are having difficulty connecting to the network today. We’re looking into this and are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
While some subscribers report that the outage has been resolved as of 6pm on Saturday October 9, 2021, others are still encountering difficulty using MTN services.
Nigeria’s largest telecommunication provider, MTN, has over 77 million subscribers, according to latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
The company which began its Nigerian operations in 2001 recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in August.
A spokesman for MTN Funsho Aina in a message confirmed that the company has been experiencing a downtime, but will soon restore services to customers.
