A concerned citizen, Gbenda Celestine, has raised alarm over the alleged secret recruitment of casual staff at Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).
According to Gbenda the Executive Chairman of the Board, Andrew Ayabam whose tenure will be expiring soon is behind the secret recruitment.
He said a source at BIRS disclosed to him that those that will be employed through the secret recruitment will be paid from the overhead of the Board.
He said some employment letters were secretly given out on Monday, and more letters will be given issued out in the next two days.
Gbenda wrote: “There is a secret recruitment of casual staff ongoing at BIRS.
According to my source, some letters were given out yesterday. These people are to be paid from the overhead of the Board.
It is a well-known fact that the leadership has not even bought a chair since the assumption of office. There is no public power supply at the headquarters of the BIRS, neither is the generator functioning. So, I wonder why they will be recruiting people to pay from the overhead of the Board when they have not been able to use the overhead to even buy a pin this past two years.
I also gathered the Chairman is about leaving office. Why would he be giving out employment letters to people on the eve of his departure?
Is he setting traps for his successor? Why didn’t he employ the casual staff all this while? We all know that the contract staff employed were as a result of the directive of Governor Samuel Ortom that graduates be employed at the Board.
More letters will be issued in the next two days.”
Efforts by our correspondent to reach the spokesperson of BIRS, Terkula Ati, proved abortive as his telephone lines were unreachable.
