A concerned citizen has raised an alarm alerting that some residents of communities along Abinsi/Gboko road in Benue state are currently scooping fuel at a petrol tanker accident scene on that road.
The eyewitness who goes by the Facebook handle Krayzietee Atu, called on the relevant authorities to do something urgently to stop the indiscriminate looting of the highly inflammable product to avert an explosion which he said will be disastrous.
He recalled the 2019 debacle where many people lost their lives while scooping fuel after a fallen fuel-laden tanker exploded in Ahumbe village on the Alliade/Makurdi Federal Highway in the Gwer East Local Government Area of the State.
The eyewitness wrote; “There is a petrol Tanker accident at Abinsi Gboko road and the villagers are packing fuel. The authorities need to do something fast before that BOOM that happened in Aliade that year will repeat itself. CcTerver AkaseSamuel OrtomEunice Ortom.”
KemiFilaniNews gathered that the accident involving the tanker and a car happened in the early hours of Tuesday, 7 September 2021.
The tanker summersaulted causing the fuel to spill while the car was badly damaged.
It is however, not clear if there was any casualty.
Efforts by our reporter to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, to confirm the development proved abortive as her telephone lines were unreachable as at the time of filing this report.
