Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has sacked the contractor in charge of the Ibadan Circular Road’s rehabilitation over what he claimed to be an unsatisfactory slow pace of work on the project.
Makinde had earlier stated that his administration would finish the first phase of the 32-kilometre road before the end of his tenure on May 28, 2023.
During a tour on the project, the governor gave the assurance and promised that the contractor, ENL Consortium Construction Company, would be paid for the work it had done on the road.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, the governor said the contractor would not be able to complete the road project if they continue to work at that slow pace.
He said, “We have terminated the initial arrangement. This is the road that we think will change the economy of Oyo State substantially. But the previous contractor, if we had continued with their pace, maybe they may finish in another 20 years.”
